This site is for organisations to share information about the community energy projects you are involved in or actively developing.
The State of the Sector research offers the most comprehensive and inclusive view of community energy in the UK, enabling us collectively to showcase sector achievements, strengthen the case for community energy, and influence government policy and other key decision makers.
The deadline for sharing your data is Tuesday 26 May 2026 – all groups that participate by the deadline will be entered into a prize draw to win £500.
The time it takes to complete the survey will depend on the range of activities you are involved in, so you only spend time on what applies to you. With no compulsory questions and the ability to save your progress you can complete the survey at your own pace and across multiple sittings. Just remember to click “SAVE” at the bottom of the page before closing your browser.
We appreciate how valuable your time is so, if you can only spare 10 to 20 mins or so, we would appreciate if you could focus on the sections below as they are essential for helping us demonstrate the sector’s impact.
- Your Organisation & People
- Funding, Finance & Expenditure
- Stalled Projects & Services
- Pipeline & Future Plans.
If you own (or own a share of) a renewable generation asset (wind turbine, hydro, solar panels) or another type of low carbon technology (EVs, EV charge points, electric batteries), we’d love you to tell us about those too, particularly if you have installed or purchased a new asset in 2025. This information is a vital indicator of sectoral growth and we know that this data is important to policy makers and decision makers.
There's an overview of the significance of the State of the Sector survey and you can read the most recent report here -– the results of this year's survey will be shared with you later in 2026.
This site is for community groups based in Scotland. The UK-wide State of the Sector project is a partnership with Community Energy England, Community Energy Scotland and Community Energy Wales – there are separate data portals available for community groups based in England and Northern Ireland, or for community groups based in Wales.
We appreciate your commitment to the community energy movement! Your continued support and engagement are an essential contribution to strengthening our sector so that together we can drive meaningful change locally and across the nations.
State of the Sector 2026 is kindly sponsored by SP Energy Networks. This support is vital for enabling us to conduct the research.
